CAOHEJING TECH PARK

Caohejing, Shanghai, China

Challenge. Located in the Southern area of Caohejing, the 70+ acre site proved to be a challenge. With various points of interest within the immediate vicinity, the high vertical density created physical boundaries, making it difficult to access the site and limited public open space was present.

Aim. The main issue with the existing Caohejing Park was the lack of accessibility, a direct result of the high-density. Goals included creating a porous site, incorporate green space, and enhance circulation.

Design. By developing a porous scheme heavily influenced by public green spaces, more users could circulate through the site to establish more social iterations and efficient pathways for travel while experiencing the site.

Modern Mega-Block. In creating mega blocks, each area was site-specific correlating to its surrounding program, Research + Design, Residential, and Cultural, creating seamless relationships and developing unique identities for each block. The Tech Park as a whole work as a micro-city, self-sustainable where a user can eat, live and sleep all within one district.
